Nylon flat washers are planar gaskets made from polyamide (PA) plastic, renowned for their excellent insulation, chemical resistance, and low friction coefficient, making them ideal for electrical, chemical, and precision machinery applications. Typically crafted from PA6 or PA66 via injection molding, these washers feature a smooth, flat surface that effectively distributes the pressure from bolts and nuts, preventing local stress concentration. As non-conductive insulators, they block current transmission, making them essential in electronic devices, cable connections, and other scenarios requiring electrical isolation. Additionally, their self-lubricating properties reduce friction and wear, suitable for components that require frequent disassembly or demand high surface protection, such as medical equipment, food machinery, and plastic structures. Nylon flat washers also resist oil, weak acids, and alkalis, maintaining stability in non-high-temperature environments (long-term use ≤100°C), while their lightweight and easy installation offer cost and load reduction advantages over metal counterparts.
Available in common thread sizes from M3 to M30, these washers are typically natural (off-white) or black, with some models customizable for flame retardancy or antistatic properties. Compared to metal flat washers, nylon ones have lower compressive strength (approximately 60-80MPa), making them unsuitable for high-load or high-vibration applications. During installation, over-tightening should be avoided to prevent deformation, and the operating temperature must not exceed the softening point of nylon (PA66: ~250°C, but practical use is recommended ≤120°C). Environmentally, nylon is recyclable, aligning with green manufacturing trends, especially in modern industries requiring both environmental protection and insulation performance.
